Parent Code of Conduct

At Chess Club Jiu-Jitsu, we believe martial arts training helps children build confidence, discipline, respect, and resilience — both on and off the mats.
Parents play a key role in supporting this journey, and your cooperation helps us provide the best possible environment for every student.

As a parent who may never have trained in BJJ or has had very little contact with the sport, such as only watching kids' classes and competitions, here are some useful tips for you:

Be Encouraging

  • Always stay positive — our focus is on learning, effort, and respect, not just winning or losing.

  • Avoid negative criticism or comparisons. Your encouragement helps your child grow with confidence and enthusiasm.

Stay Calm and Respectful

  • Your attitude sets the tone for your child. Please show patience, respect, and sportsmanship at all times.

  • Treat coaches, staff, and other families with courtesy — our community thrives on mutual respect and kindness.

Preparation and Good Habits

  • Ensure your child arrives a few minutes early, ready to train with full uniform and a water bottle.

  • All students must wear shoes when walking off the mats (including to the bathroom).

  • If bringing food or snacks, please eat only in the kitchen area — not in the reception, training, or play areas.

  • To help kids focus and perform at their best, please avoid screen time (phones, tablets, video games, or TV) before class, as it can affect their concentration during training.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up / Parent Access

To support the best learning outcomes and focus for all students:

  • Parents are no longer permitted inside the BJJ training room during classes.

    • Experience shows that children concentrate and learn better when parents are not in the room.

  • A TV viewing area is available at reception for parents who wish to observe classes without entering the mat space.

  • Parents waiting with siblings may use the playroom. Please ensure all children are supervised — no unsupervised play around the club.

  • We strongly encourage a drop-off and pick-up routine for all students to promote independence and smoother transitions.

Let the Coaches Lead

  • Our instructors are experienced professionals who manage all aspects of class instruction, safety, and behavior.

  • Parents can relax knowing that our team will handle any issues or assistance needed during class.

  • If your child requires your attention, we will contact you promptly.

Open Communication and Support

  • We value open communication between parents and coaches.

  • If your child is experiencing bullying or challenges at school or elsewhere, please don’t hesitate to speak with our coaching team.

    • We are happy to have a supportive conversation with your child and use Jiu-Jitsu lessons to help build confidence, self-esteem, and problem-solving skills.

Enjoy the Journey

  • Kids’ Jiu-Jitsu is about growth, respect, and fun. Progress happens through consistent effort over time.

  • Celebrate your child’s improvement, encourage their commitment, and enjoy being part of their martial arts journey.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, focused, and positive environment for every student at Chess Club Jiu-Jitsu.
Your cooperation ensures all children can train, learn, and thrive on the mats.
